What does dtangle track?
Activity across your apps and websites, grouped into the threads that make up your day.
Which platforms are supported?
The desktop app is available for macOS. Windows and Linux are coming soon.
Can I start for free?
Yes. Your first month is free, with every feature. After that, Basic is $1.99 a month with activity across all your apps and devices, 7 days of history and AI work grouping. Pro is $11.99 a month with unlimited history and AI patterns across it. See the plans.
Will it slow my Mac down?
dtangle runs in the background and is built to stay out of the way: it uses a fraction of one CPU core and a small, fixed amount of memory.
How are website addresses captured?
Through the dtangle browser extension, which reports the page you are on without polling your browser. Read how to install it.
What permissions does the desktop app need?
Accessibility, so it can read which window is in front and what it is called. Nothing is recorded from inside your screen. Read how to grant it.
Why is the dtangle icon wiggling, with a blue dot?
dtangle is not fully set up on this Mac yet. The blue dot stays on the icon and it gives a small wiggle every five seconds until every step is done, then both stop by themselves.
Click the icon to see what is left: each step is listed at the top of the menu. While you are past your distraction budget, the amber or red dot shows in place of the blue one.
What are the red lines at the top of the menu?
Each one is a step still to finish on this Mac, written as what to do. Click it and dtangle takes you to the fix:
- Sign in to finish setting up dtangle opens sign in. Nothing syncs until it is done.
- Grant Accessibility to track activity opens the right pane in System Settings. Read why it is needed.
- Add the dtangle extension to Chrome, or to Firefox, shows for each browser you use without it. Read how to install it.
- Reload the dtangle extension in Chrome means it was working and went quiet. Reload it in five seconds.
- Start dtangle when you log in switches it on. If macOS wants your say, Login Items opens with a helper showing what to switch on.
Each line goes away the moment its step is done, and the blue dot and the wiggle stop with the last one.
AI coaching
What is the breathing pause?
After two missed days in a row, the site or app that took the most of the latest one opens with one slow breath first. A calm screen settles over it with a breathing circle and your plan for the day, if you have one: in for four seconds, hold for one, out for five.
Nothing is blocked. Close it right away, or wait one breath and carry on. After you carry on, it opens freely for the next hour. In Chrome or Firefox the dtangle extension keeps the tab quiet underneath and closes it when you choose Close. An app such as Netflix quits the usual way, so it can still save anything open.
Each close is counted in the menu, as in "Closed YouTube 3 times today". Opens are never counted. One clean day turns the pause off again. To switch it off altogether, turn off Breathing pause in Settings and your Mac follows within a few minutes.
Privacy and contact
Who can see my activity?
Only you. Your activity is tied to your account and is never shared or sold. Read the privacy policy.
Can I delete my data?
Yes, whenever you like. Open any past day in Home under A day and choose Delete day: everything dtangle recorded that day, on all your devices, is deleted, including its strands, autopsy and stats. To remove everything, delete your account in Settings. Read the privacy policy.
